Description:
The Gurtenfestival was launched in 1977 as an international folk-festival. Up through the 90's the festival has established itself as a major venue for contemporary music with a capacity of 20'000 people per day. The festival ground, which is located 858 meters above sea level, is often described as the most enchanting in Switzerland. The site is situated on the wooded Gurten Hill in the largest public park in the area belonging to the city of Berne. The journey to the top takes 30-40 minutes on foot or 7 minutes by railway. The festival site has two openair stages, Mainstage and Weststage and a marquee, Eaststage.
