Description:
Nestling between the Jura Mountains and Lake Geneva, 20 km away from Geneva itself, the "First Folk Festival" of 1976 has now become one of Europe's biggest open-air festivals.

It has been sold out in advance for the past 9 years. The 210,000 tickets (35,000 capacity x 6 nights) for the 2009 edition have been sold within 2 hours at line up announcement mid-April!

From its folk origins, the musical offer of Paléo Festival has opened up to include other genres such as rock, French chanson, world music, reggae, pop, electronic music and even classical music. The Festival is engaged in a process of continuous innovation and gives as much importance to the discovery of new talent as to the celebration of established stars.
Its 6 stages, both covered and open-air, can accommodate audiences ranging from 500 to 30,000.
Open to other forms of artistic expression, Paléo Festival also invites audiences to enjoy circus acts, comedy and numerous performances involving street theatre.

The Festival's sense of social and ecological responsibilities was recently awarded some distinctions: the Nice Future Attitude prize in 2006, 2007 and 2008, the Swiss ethics prize in 2007 and the Midem Green World Award in 2008.
Even though its success has established it today as a leader in the fields of programming and organisation, it has maintained low affordable prices (30 euro/day on the average).

Program references:
Depeche Mode, Björk, Bob Dylan, The Who, R.E.M., Muse, Rammstein, The Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim, The Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Lenny Kravitz, P!nk, Robert Plant, Ravi Shankar, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, Moby, Neil Young, Franz Ferdinand, Gossip, Placebo, Sigur Rós, Beck, Ben Harper, The Cure, Jamiroquai, Pixies, Manu Chao, Massive Attack, Amy Macdonald, Peter Doherty, TV On The Radio, etc...
