ABOUT YOUROPE Welcome to YOUROPE In the early seventies something very important happened... something that changed the face of youth culture, as we knew it. A phenomenon called rock festivals was born. Along with it a new concept for the youth of coming together. It was pioneering and exciting times! The world has changed drastically since the summer of love but the festivals prevail! People still come together by the thousands each summer in open fields and leave ordinary daily conveniences behind for a breath of open air life. The concept of the festivals has now changed in many directions, and the events have been finely tuned to perfection by many dedicated professional festival organisers. Focus has been on music first but also on audience comfort and facilities for years. Life on a rock festival is not nearly as “rough” as it used to be in “the old days”. That’s why this lifestyle has broadened its appeal considerably over the years. Its not only youngsters still in their teens that are attracted to a bit of camp life, with a lowered dirt-threshold, some 24hrs partying and a lot of fine music. Generations have now become accustomed, and addicted, to this particular way of life each summer. Throughout the summer you can visit a wide range of live music festivals on the European continent. The major festivals for contemporary music have joined forces in YOUROPE -the European Festival Association. Some of them are huge, some are smaller, but they do have one thing in common, they are all of the highest quality when it comes to programming, production and audience facilities. YOUROPE was founded in November ‘98. The association presently has over 40 members among the most well established festivals in Europe. They are all dedicated to strengthen the festival scene in Europe in terms of working conditions, safety, environmental awareness and exchange of performing talent across borders. The aim of the association is to locate and highlight all common grounds for collaboration and the potential problematic areas where a joint approach is called for. YOUROPE is forming a united forum to work for progress and change, co-ordination of activities and building a bank of “know-how” for the members to draw on. On this homepage, you will find information and addresses of all the members of YOUROPE the European Festival Association. We hope that you will find it informative reading and that you want to visit some of the festivals. They are all well worth planning your summer around. Best wishes The board of YOUROPE |
